Abu Dhabi's first F1 Grand Prix

November 5th, 2009

This week in Dubai I saw....

Well not actually Dubai, Abu Dhabi really. With all the media hype over Formula 1 I thought it would be fair to author a posting dedicated to the highly awaited F1 events that took place this past weekend in Abu Dhabi. (October 29-November 1st)

I was invited by a good friend of mine to the Paddock Club; basically the best seats in the house at the F1 races. From delving into some of the region's best cuisines to taking close shots of Hamilton and Button's pit stops, I think its fair to say that I experienced the UAE's first F1 race to the fullest.  Thursday (October 29th) I was fortunate to experience who in my opinion is one of the best female musical artists in the world; Beyonce. What an empowering woman! She definitely knows how to put on a show.  Jamiroquai, Kings of Leon and Aerosmith also preformed throughout the F1 weekend.  A popular social activity at the races was definitely "yacht hopping"-basically all the Dubai'ns and some Abu Dhabi'ns brought their yachts to the marina to watch the races for the weekend and people would go from yacht to yacht and party. Everyone who's anyone made it a point to be seen at that juncture; I think I saw half of Dubai at the marina!  Amber Lounge was a popular after party that many F1 goers went to; good crowd, good music, good times.

Despite some of the messy logistics and disorganization at the concerts I think Abu Dhabi's first F1 was a success; I'm definitely going to make it a point to go next year and encourage anyone who's in town to go.

A big congrats to Vettel who won the race!

Until next week....bisous
